Google Reader - Michael K Pate's shared items

I have been a heavy Bloglines user for the last few years. I had tried Google Reader before but there were several things I was never quite happy with, so I decided to stay with that.

But I have grown a little weary of Bloglines eternal beta test period for the new version. And it seemed like a good time to try something new again. Whether or not this will last, we will all have to just wait and see.

Kevin Rose has always described the inspiration for digg as Slashdot meets del.icio.us. What he didn’t expect was how fast the site would grow.

There are still a lot of advantages to using del.icio.us and the tagging system it offers. But if you are in a hurry, nothing works better than clicking a button and instantly digging a story.

Flickr Photos from michaelkpate

To me, Flickr is pretty much the prototypical web 2.0 site. Many of the conventions of the movement have their basis within this site.

I have been putting photos on the site for many years. There are definitely competitors but most everyone I know online has a Flickr account so it remains the gold standard.

michaelkpate's Bookmarks on Delicious

After I signed up for my account on del.icio.us, it took me a while to really start using it. Now I can’t imagine having to live without it. The ability to create a bookmark on one computer and easily access it on another is so powerful that it has really changed the way I do a lot of things.

One tip: The Firefox add-on. The easier del.icio.us is to use, the more you will use it, and the more you will see how useful it can be.

Update: The new service, launched a few hours, has a new look and a new url: Delicious.com. I haven’t really explored the functionality yet but I except I will over the coming months.
